Welcome to Camera Carol

Volta

Volta was found after flying into a power line on the waterfront of Sitka,
Alaska in 1992. He was brought to the Alaska Raptor Rehabilitation Center
suffering from concussion, electrocution, and bone fracture shoulder,
critical for flight, was partially destroyed in the collision, making
Volta non-releasable.

The wingspread of a bald eagle can span the distance between two power
lines, causing the power source to arch, giving rise to electrocution
injuries. Staggering the power lines on oppisite sides of the pole with a
vertical distance between helps to prevent electrocution to birds with
large wingspans. Laying all cables and power lines underground along known flight paths
of large raptors also helps to protect these majestic birds from injury.
